Michael Jackson Estate Forces Removal of Plant-Eating Zombie

The family of the late King of Popular has taken offence to a Thriller-parodying brain-eater in PopCap's popular Plants vs. Zombies.

Plants vs. Zombies is great for many, many reasons – and one of those reasons is the halt's sense of humor. IT's delightfully facetiously with its various horticulture-supported weaponry and flesh-eating undead, including one special "saltation zombie," who was clearly meant as an homage to the iconic saltation break down in Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" euphony video.

The in style update to PopCap's relentlessly addictive original, yet, replaces the dancing zombie's distinctive scarlet jacket (with matching pants) and curling hair for something more disco-themed. MTV Multiplayer reached out to the casual developer and found that the shift had been made at the request of Jackson's estate.

The Estate of the realm of Michael Jackson objected to our habit of the 'saltation zombie' in PLANTS vs. ZOMBIES based on its view that the living dead likewise closely resembled Michael Jackson. After receiving this objection, PopCap made a business decision to retire the original 'dancing zombie' and replace it with a variant 'dancing zombie' character for future builds of PLANTS vs. ZOMBIES on each platforms. The phase-out and replacement unconscious process is afoot.

I, for indefinite, am kind of bummed. Sure, I guess a disco music-themed zombie is all right, but Michael Jackson's appearance in "Thriller" is the image of a dance zombie. Considering that "Thriller" remains indefinite of the most popular music genre videos (and albums) ever years after its release (and subsequently all of those weird lawsuits aimed at Mahalia Jackson, too), why would you want to murder what was clearly a doting parody-slash-homage to information technology?

I'm not saying that the Jackson Estate mightiness not have had legal grounds to stand on, and PopCap is doing the right matter in respecting the family's wishes … but it just seems counterproductive to me.
